Directories
Palo Alto, CA/12 November, 2003 – PGP Corporation, the recognized leader in secure messaging and information storage, today announced the public beta release of PGP® Universal 1.1. PGP Universal version 1.1 adds support for the MAPI email protocol, the S/MIME message and the X.509 certificate formats, and LDAP directories and Exchange groups, plus PGP Universal Satellite support for Mac OS X. This represents the second major release of PGP Universal during 2003.
Introduced in September, PGP Universal moves security from the desktop to the network. Its new network proxy- and protocol-based approach provides automatic, transparent, end-to-end messaging security, allowing organizations to secure all their information assets in a practical and cost-effective manner. In October, PGP Universal received the Editor's Choice Award for Security in VARBusiness magazine's annual Tech Innovators Awards.
This public beta will provide customers with an advance view of new features and the ability to test PGP Universal 1.1 in their own environments. Beta testers must be familiar with creating a CD from an ISO image, configuring networks and network interfaces, adding and modifying DNS entries, and email server administration. A dedicated x86-based, Linux-compatible server is required to install and run this beta. The PGP Universal 1.1 beta must not be used in production environments.
The PGP Universal 1.1 public beta is available from PGP Corporation as a free 322 megabyte download at http://www.pgp.com/beta.
